Want to make your reports better? Here are a few ways to write reports that mystery shopping companies will love:

Keep it objective and state the facts. Tell what happened: What did employees say and do?

Make your writing more interesting by varying sentence length and word choices. Follow a short sentence with a more complex sentence, but avoid long, run-on sentences. Spice up your writing by using a variety of words. Use a thesaurus to identify new word choices, but make sure you know what the word means (and that the meaning is appropriate) before using it.

Read your comments and narratives out loud before submitting your reports. Yes, the dog will look at you strangely when you read your latest restaurant shop to him, but it will be easier for you to spot problems in the report when you are reading it out loud. Your brain ‘fixes’ sentences as your eyes scan them, but your mouth will catch mistakes.
