Are high gas prices making it harder for you to make a profit with mystery shopping? Here are a few tips to help you reduce your gas expenses. Remember that every dollar you save on expenses goes straight to your bottom line, increasing your profits.

Group your trips and plan your route. Combine mystery shopping with other errands to make fewer trips. Plan the best route to avoid backtracking and going out of your way. Microsoft’s Streets and Trips can be a helpful tool. Read more about it here.

Check your tires. If your tires are improperly inflated, your miles per gallon (MPG) could drop by 3%. Know the what the recommended pressure is for your tires, check it often, and make sure your tires are properly inflated.

Don’t speed! Driving faster uses more gas. Keep to posted speed limits. You can also save the cost of speeding tickets (and increased insurance rates) this way.

Avoid stop-and-start driving. Take routes that with fewer traffic lights and stop signs, when you can. Drive at a constant speed on the highway, instead of speeding up and slowing down. Use cruise control.

Replace your air filter. According to FuelEconomy.gov, you can save the equivalent of $.32 per gallon of gas by keeping your air filter clean. The clean air filter will also protect your engine.

Take off excess pounds. No, you don’t have to go on a diet. Remove unneeded cargo from your vehicle. If you are carrying around boxes of stuff, sports equipment or other stuff you don’t need, take it out and save on gas.

Get a credit card that rebates some of the cash you spend on gasoline. Apply for the Discover® Open Road Card
and get 5% cash back on gas and auto maintenance, up to 1% on everything else, and save with other special offers for cardholders.

Use common sense and planning to reduce your gas expenses and pocket more cash.

Another way to save is to buy gas at discount clubs like Sam’s and BJ’s.

Sam’s and Costco are great ideas for saving gas. Also Speedway runs a special several times a year using their customer card - you save 5 cents per gallon.
