Do you have a favorite pair of “shopping shoes”? When you are on your feet all day, it is important to have shoes that fit well, support your feet and keep you comfortable. And, of course, you want to look good. Here are some tips to help you find the right shoes for a mystery shopper’s feet.

Always look for shoes that provide good support for your feet. Flip flops and other unstructured shoes generally do not provide the support you need for a long day on your feet. Hold a shoe at each end and twist it. If it bends too much it will not provide enough support.

Buy shoes made of natural materials, not synthetics. Leather and fabric allow your feet to “breathe,” meaning you will be more comfortable, your feet will sweat less, and you are less likely to blister.

Backless shoes can create more stress on the balls of your feet. They are also more likely to slip and may be harder to walk in.

Although flats and sneakers are comfortable, you can also find shoes with height that will not hurt your feet. If you want height, stay away from the stilettos and look for shoes with a gentle incline of up to two inches. Shoes that have a steep rise can force your toes to carry your weight and hurt your feet.

Use insoles to cushion your feet. There are foam and gel insoles that provide extra comfort.

Always make sure your shoes fit correctly. The fit does not get better with wear. Shoes that are uncomfortable the first time you put them on will be uncomfortable every time.

Wearing the wrong shoes can make a day spent mystery shopping uncomfortable or even painful. Find the right shoes and you and your feet will be able to spend all day shopping without dropping.
